The review of suicides associated with gender dysphoria was commisioned by the UK government in the face of claims that child suicide was prevalent in the population of children suffering gender dysphoria. These claims were made by irresponsible people and organisations in order to campaign against the decision to ban puberty blockers. This ban followed the publication of the Cass Review of treatment of children with gender dysphoria, which found that the evidence to support affirmative approaches was "remarkably weak".
